American families,, Face Lu – Mien families barriers in servicesA new community-based study by UC Davis researchers found was that children receive with mental disabilities in Southeast Asian American families, substantial obstacles face intervention services. Barriers include lack of accurate information, language difficulties, lack of confidence and limited range.
It will be published online in the journal Pediatrics in a special supplement, Almost one fifth with disabilities and special health needs of traditionally underserved communities. These families care very deeply about their children, said Dian Baker, a postdoctoral scholar at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis and the Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at the UC Davis MIND institutions. It’s not that they do not want to help them. They do not know what to do. .
